Grace & Intentionality

does anybody else feel super guilty if you commit to read your bible/do a bible study/etc. everyday & you don’t end up getting around to it one day ? I know I do, but something I’ve been reminded of is having grace for yourself. It’s not an excuse to stop altogether, but rather an encouragement to keep going ! It doesn’t even mean you have to try & make up what you lost from the day you skipped. God gives us unlimited grace when we are in complete & intentional pursuit of relationship with the Father - so why can’t we also extend that kind of grace to ourselves ? God does not want you to add condemnation upon yourself for skipping a day in His word.

if you go 1 day without talking to your friend that doesn’t mean you have to start the friendship over, right ? God works the same way ! obviously He wants to be in constant communication with you, but just because you get busy sometimes doesn’t mean He’s going to disown you, that’s silly !

in no way am I saying that you should let your circumstances dictate your time with the Lord, sometimes your normal schedule doesn’t allow intentional time with the father, so you WILL have to section out time in your day to do your bible study or meditate on scripture.

one thing that does help me is to say out loud or write into my schedule the specific time I want to use to communicate with God. I’m more accountable that way. I would just encourage you to find out what works for you & try your best to stick to it, but don’t get discouraged when you miss a day.

so friend - don’t get so down on yourself when you skip a day or 2 of getting in the word. but rather, use it as motivation to be intentional about connecting with Him at another time !

ps - if you're looking for a new christian book to read or you're on the hunt to find a new devotional book, look no further than It's Not Supposed to Be This Way & Embraced. both of them are by Lysa TerKeurst & they are so challenging, but somehow Lysa makes you feel so seen even though you've never met her. i cannot recommend them enough to y'all!

2 takeaways:

give yourself GRACE when you mess up, just like God extends to us.

be INTENTIONAL about setting aside time for bible studies & books/reading your bible.
