My Ideal Meals
hi guys ! so today i am going to share something a little different than i normally do. we're gonna talk food. i am mostly definitely a lover of food for sure. eating is definitely in my top 5 favorite things to do. here's my confession, i like to eat too much. i over eat all the time, it's terrible. since dance competition season is coming up very soon & the Crossfit Open, the first round of the Crossfit Games, is also coming up, i have had a revelation that i have to start eating better. dancers don't work for beach ready bodies, they work for costume ready bodies. i want to look good in my costumes ! i DO NOT want no muffin top or fat rolls when i'm on stage. BIG no to that !!! so, your girl is starting a comp season/Crossfit Open diet & workout program. okay, i know i workout all the time. if i'm not at the gym working out i'm at dance working out. Sundays are my only rest day & sometimes Fridays are too. i know that not everybody works out all the time like i do & that is TOTALLY fine !! you should not feel bad about that !! but, i do know that if you aren't working out & you're eating half of a horse all the time that eventually you're gonna blow up like a balloon. which is exactly how God designed our bodies to work ! so don't feel bad about that either ! it's going to happen bc YOU ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN ANYONE ELSE !! if you eat bad & don't workout you will get fat, period. the Bible talks about how your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit & you are responsible to take care of it. this post is not for me to make you feel bad about yourself, your body, or tell you that you're a bad Christian bc you don't eat lettuce at every meal, or to say that you can't ever eat another donut in your life time. bc believe me honey, i'm gonna eat donuts. what i am here to tell you is some practical tips on how you can make your diet a little more healthy & help you get some weight off of your tummy or legs. losing weight, losing inches, or getting healthier is 30% excercise 70% diet. i know, i can hear all 3 of you gasping & saying well that doesn't sound right. but let me tell you, (keep in mind how much i told you that i workout in a week) if you eat terribly but you workout, YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT. you will counteract ANY sort of calorie burn by eating too much or eating bad things. i am 5'3" i am a bigger girl for my age, but i have a lot of muscle on my body & i do a lot of olympic weightlifting, but i am about 10lbs overweight for my height & age. i'm not fat, but i have some weight in places i don't want it. also, sidenote if you eat too much of the right thing that is also bad for you. too many high fat healthy foods ie. nuts, cheese, peanut butter etc. & you'll gain weight so fast you won't even know what hit you. too many high sugar healthy foods ie. fruit is also bad. your diet is extremely important. what you put in is what you get out. i have no control when it comes to sweets, NONE. i could them all day. so if you are bent that way like me, then substitute some of those sweets with fruit. fruit is the perfect sweet that is good for you. but, like i said too much of it is also bad. although the sugar that is in fruit is good for you, if you eat too much fruit or you eat it late at night your body can't burn it off fast enough. fruit is perfect for breakfast & lunch, NOT after 7 o'clock bc sugars turn into fats & if you don't leave enough time for your body to burn it off, it will stick to you. high protein & high fat healthy foods ie. nuts, sausage, peanut butter, etc. are good but not in excess. YOU WILL PUT ON A LOT OF WEIGHT if you eat too much of that stuff. i would stay away from dairy & wheat products. your body actually isn't supposed to digest that stuff (i can feel you gasping again, but yes it is true). dairy is extremely high in fat & wheat is very heavy so it takes a long time for your body to break it down & there isn't a lot of nutritional value in it anyway. also, your meals should look like a funnel. what i mean by that is, your breakfast should be your biggest, then lunch, then dinner. yeah yeah yeah i know, "i'm not hungry in the mornings, i don't wanna eat a big breakfast, i'll skip breakfast." all of those excuses are terrible. you know why you aren't hungry when you wake up? bc your body hasn't digested all of your huge dinner from last night. it takes getting used to, but it WILL HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT & you'll feel so so much better ! you won't be as tired in the mornings & you'll have a lot more energy to do all of the things you need to do. also, slow down when you eat, don't scarf down your food. your body gets full a lot sooner than you think & then you don't overeat. you should never get to the point when you couldn't put another thing in your mouth, that's unhealthy.
my ideal meals would be something like this.
breakfast: i love avocados so i will sometimes have some cut up avocado with a little bit of salt, pepper, & a little bit of lemon juice, yum :-) i will either drink a Naked smoothie or make some coffee *heart eyes emoji* the Naked smoothies are great bc they don't have any added perservatives, they're 100% real fruit juice, & they taste so good ! if i have time to make an egg or 2 i will make scrambled eggs & eat it with some bacon or sausage. i will pair that with some kind of fruit, a banana, a handful of grapes, or a little Cutie orange. if i don't have time to make eggs & sausage or eggs & bacon i will eat a bunch of fruit (handful of grapes, a banana, some strawberries, & an apple with some peanut butter), & if we have some sliced cheese i will grab a slice & have a cup of coffee.
lunch: 3 or 4 slices of lunch meat, some kind of fruit, an apple, an orange, or some grapes. 5 or 6 carrots (NO RANCH, it is so fattening) i personally don't like celery, but if you like celery over carrots or if you want both, that is a great time to eat that kind of thing. i love peanut butter so if you want to bring a little container of peanut butter & just eat it with a spoon or eat it with some vegetable or fruit that's great too. i will try to drink anywhere from 16 to 20 ounces of water with lunch.
dinner: some type of meat, if you like fish, by all means eat fish at dinner time, i personally don't like fish, but i wish i did bc it is so good for you. with a vegetable (broccoli, salad, esparagus, corn), & a potato of some kind, with another 16 to 20 ounces of water.
i drink water ALL DAY. you are supposed to drink half of your weight in ounces of water everyday. if you get really bad headaches & you don't drink enough water that could be your reason right there. if i don't have enough water i will get the WORST migraine. so here's my challenge to you, take one day & write down everything you drink & write the number of ounces in your notes on your phone. don't calculate how much water you should be drinking before you do it & at the end of the day see how much water you need to drink compared to how much you actually drank. you'll be shocked. disclaimer: you will pee SO much in the beginning, but once your body gets used to it, you won't pee as much.
i was about 7 spots away from moving on to second round of the Crossfit Games, the Crossfit Regionals, last year. i was so close that it has put a fire under my butt to get in the gym & push really hard. this year i am competing 7 dance routines, which is at least 3 more than i've ever done in the past. i'm ready to push myself & help push my team to win at competitions. i am motivated & excited about getting in shape & getting ready to compete in both the Crossfit Games Open & in my dance competitions ! i hope that this post has helped you & that you try some or all of it ! rise & grind y'all.
